WELCOME to the home of the Freemen of Llantrisant, a website established by Llantrisant Town Trust. For more than six and a half centuries the Freemen have played a vital role in the every day life of this ancient Welsh town. They proudly uphold the traditions passed down from their forefathers while fiercely protecting the common lands held under their jurisdiction.

This website is designed to outline the role played by the Freemen of Llantrisant since the presentment of a Royal Charter in 1346. It will give Freemen the opportunity to trace their lineage, while also allowing those with a hereditary right to become a Freemen the opportunity to apply for the privilege.

The website also illustrates the many fascinating historical aspects of this unique hilltop town. By exploring the long and colourful history of the area, you will also learn more about Llantrisant's famous residents, its many traditions and the special place it still holds as one of the most loved communities in the whole of Wales.

After more than 1,500 years, the Llantrisant of today is a thriving tourist attraction, complete with its specialist shops, an award-winning arts centre, popular hostelries and eating places.

Visitors have the opportunity of viewing many of its proudest historical sites, including the parish church and Norman castle, the Guild Hall, Zoar, Elim and Penuel Chapels, the statue to druid Dr William Price, a rare handball court, ruined windmill and of course its extensive common lands which surround the town.

Llantrisant is more than just a town built on history, today it remains the home of talented artists, musicians and writers. Visitors will be impressed by the quantity and indeed quality of goods on offer in one of its many stores perched on one of those narrow, cobbled streets. It also enjoys a reputation as a centre for art and design due to the opularity of the Model House. With plenty of places to eat, drink and relax, there is always live music on offer to entertain you at one of its popular venues.

We hope this website encourages you to learn more about this beautiful little town as you prepare to visit Llantrisant and see it in all its glory for yourself!
